IS CHIRANJEEVI'S "SHANKAR DADA ZINDABAD" A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT ?

Megastar Chiranjeevi’s film "Shanakar Dada Zindabad" released all over the state on Friday. Huge crowds were seen at all the theaters where the film was being screened. His fans turned up in large numbers and put up big hoardings and banners and made the event colorful.

However, the movie falls short of expectations of even the most die-hard Chiranjeevi fans.

The biggest drawback is the heroine. She looks good, homely, charming etc. But this is not one looks for in a movie. And she failed to add glamor and hot looks, which came as a huge disappointment to the audience. Her entry on screen was greeted with a deafening silence by the audience in the theaters, which gives a clear indication of their initial reaction to her. She may be a top model and a Kingfisher pin-up girl, but acting is an entirely different matter. She failed to emote well and despite the cinematographer’s best efforts, her age and figure could not be masked completely.

Another drawback is the lack of punchy dialogues that one looks forward to in a Chiranjeevi movie. Compared to Shankar Dada MBBS, the sequel is quite a let down. The first film was full of action, dance, drama and suspense. All this was lacking in this film.

Paresh Rawal excelled in SD MBBS but Sayaji Shinde’s role was not that well etched in this film and it did not have the desired impact.

The director has failed to add anything new to the Hindi version and this is one of the biggest drawbacks of the film. The guest appearance by Pawan Kalyan, Allu Arjun, Ravi Teja, Devi Sree Prasad, Naga Babu and the director Prabhu Deva was well-received by the audience but this itself is not sufficient to not carry the film.

Chiranjeevi gave a classic performance but he never seemed to have got under the skin of the character. Chiru played himself when an artist of his caliber is expected to get under the skin of the character. So in the movie, one sees more of Chiranjeevi on the screen than Shankar Dada. But this is one thing his fans would not mind though.

The film on the whole has attracted an average talk and this after wooing the audience for over a year came a big disappointment to many. One fails to understand why Prabhu Deva took such a long time to make just a carbon copy of Lageraho Munnabhai.
