Former Telugu Actress Alekhya (37) committed suicide on Monday night by hanging herself at her house in Kodambakkam in Chennai. Apparently dejected at not getting enough acting opportunities, she took this extreme step. Alekhya, a native of Amalapuram in East Godavari district, had acted in Pellisandadi, Appula Apparao, etc.
According to police, she was eking out a living by featuring in dance sequences and doing small roles in films. She was living with her teenaged son Ravi following her husband's death last year. Unhappy at not being able to land enough roles in films, she is said to have become an alcoholic.
On Tuesday morning, the maid servant, who came to the house found the bedroom locked from inside. She alerted the neighbours, who broke open the door only to find the Alekya hanging from the ceiling.
