The Delhi High Court today heard the petition filed by Pinky Anand, the counsel for Chiranjeevi's second daughter Srija and her husband Sirish Bharadwaj. The newly weds approached the Delhi High Court saying they feared for their lives as they had married without the consent of their elders.
In the petition, filed by advocate Pinky Anand, Srija said she apprehended a repeat of the Rizwanur Rahman case and had fled from her home state Andhra Pradesh with her husband. She stated that her life and liberty are in immediate danger, and that there was no hope in getting justice in Andhra Pradesh.
After talking to the couple in the packed courtroom, Justice S.N. Dhingra directed the Delhi Police to provide then security after they formally apply for it. When Justice Dhingra came to know that Srija was in the second year of her graduation, he asked about her age and whether she would continue with her studies. Srija said she was 19 and would continue her studies by joining a correspondence course from there. The judge asked her husband his age, qualification and how he would manage. Bhardwaj replied he was 22 and a qualified computer engineer. He said that he had a family business and would start working for his livelihood.
Anand said several cases, including of kidnapping and forgery of passport, had been slapped against Bhardwaj. She alleged that the friends and relatives of the boy who attended the wedding ceremony in Secunderabad were harassed and hounded by the police at the behest of the Megastar Chiranjeevi.
Advocate Maninder Singh appeared in the court saying he had been approached by the maternal uncle of Srija to assure the court that there would be no threat to the couple from Chiranjeevi or his family. He said that Chiranjeevi on Oct 20, appeared on television and blessed the couple after forgiving them. Singh assured the court that he would be filing a reply after seeking instructions from the father of the girl and there would be no threat to their lives-Telugu Cinemass.
