Priyamani readily agreed to slide down a rope in Switzerland for her first film. She has won multiple awards for her role in the Tamil film Paruththi Veeram. Meet model turned actor, Priyamani the hot girl from South
It's easy to see why one finds it difficult to believe that she is not an Andhraite; what with her looks and her name. Her cosmopolitan attitude, as one finds out shortly, stems from her roots in Bangalore. Actor Priyamani, who stunned audiences with her terrific performance in the Tamil film Paruththi Veeran recently won the National Award in the Best Actress category. More recently, she has also won the Filmfare Award in the same category. Like many young Bangaloreans, she started her career as a model.
Her dream then was to work as a ramp-model with top fashion designers. In little time, she found herself modelling in Chennai; tall-frame and dusky looks, it was only natural that she found work in the city that is the hub for saris and jewellery. Director Bharathiraja spotted her for his film KaNgaLaal Kaidhu Sei and as the clichéd phrase goes, 'since then, there has been no looking back'. She began to enthrall audiences; not just in Tamil Nadu but the whole of South India. Like most people, she grew up watching the films of Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan and Sri Devi. Today, she shares the same stage (if not screen space) with them. Her friends, who are mostly Telugu-speaking, are thrilled. She tells us that her friends often ask her when she'll act with popular Telugu actors like Venkatesh, Chiranjeevi and Mahesh Babu. She also continues to tell us that like many, her friends are overwhelmed to see her act in films and are very proud of her.
Who wouldn't be, especially after seeing her essay the role of Muththazhagi in that landmark film Paruththi Veeran? Priyamani is willing to go that extra mile to prove herself and that she believes is her strength. This was evident, even in her first film, when she readily agreed to slide down a rope in Switzerland despite wearing a Victorian gown. Even with all the laurels and adulation, she has no airs. Her easygoing approach to life surfaces when she says, "I still love hanging out with friends and catching up on cinema."
